Casa Colibrí es el resultado de un proyecto que atiende las características de un hogar en el lago de Chapala, como lo son el descanso, la contemplación, y la preparación de alimentos, que dan sentido a la convivencia y recreación; dadas las condiciones del terreno, existen dos horizontes principales para su orientación: al norte una cordillera de cerros que delimita la casa como un elemento más de la misma, y al sur, donde las vistas se liberan hacia el lago y el cerro de García, enfatizando las bondades del sitio.
Con esto en mente, el proyecto comienza recibiendo a quienes la habitan a través de vegetación tupida, delimitada por muros y paramentos de piedra de la región. Es a través de un zigzagueo previo al ingreso, que se revela el primer gran lugar de la casa: un patio donde convive el agua, la jacaranda, y el cielo.
Tomando en cuenta clima, ventilación, practicidad, y los dos horizontes principales, se extiende el área principal de la casa: sala, comedor, y cocina, donde los espacios se transitan sin límite alguno; hacia arriba, una doble altura que libra la sala y el comedor se extiende a lo largo y ancho, evidenciando una serie de ventanales en planta alta que privilegian la vista a la cordillera y acompañan un pasillo contemplativo que desemboca en la recámara principal.
Finalmente, la terraza se extiende del otro lado del patio de ingreso, conectando cerro-jacaranda-casa-alberca y lago de manera simultánea, desvaneciendo los límites del interior y el exterior, permitiendo ser permeada por la vegetación que la rodea, y fomentando la convivencia, donde el área exterior techada con carrizos hecha por artesanos locales permite terminar el día con la puesta de sol detrás del lago más grande de México.
Casa Colibrí is the result of a project that addresses the characteristics of a home on Lake Chapala, such as rest, contemplation, and food preparation, which give meaning to conviviality and recreation. Given the terrain, there are two main horizons for its orientation: to the north, a mountain range defines the house as an integral part of it, and to the south, where views open up towards the lake and García Hill, emphasizing the site's beauty.
With this in mind, the project begins by welcoming its inhabitants through lush vegetation, defined by walls and stonework from the region. A zigzag path leading to the entrance reveals the first great space of the house: a patio where water, jacaranda trees, and sky converge.
Taking into account climate, ventilation, practicality, and the two main horizons, the main living area—living room, dining room, and kitchen—is extended, with spaces that flow seamlessly into one another. Upstairs, a double-height space spanning the living and dining areas extends lengthwise and widthwise, revealing a series of windows on the upper floor that offer stunning views of the mountain range and complement a contemplative hallway leading to the master bedroom.
Finally, the terrace extends across the entrance patio, seamlessly connecting the hill, jacaranda tree, house, pool, and lake, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior. It allows the surrounding vegetation to permeate the space, fostering a sense of togetherness, and the covered outdoor area, crafted by local artisans, provides the perfect spot to end the day watching the sunset over Mexico's largest lake.
