Casa San Juan se emplaza en un terreno privilegiado a orillas del lago de Chapala, con vistas abiertas hacia el agua y la sierra que enmarca. Su diseño responde a la dualidad entre lo íntimo y lo abierto: un conjunto de volúmenes sobrios y horizontales que se articulan alrededor de patios interiores y jardines semienterrados, generando una atmósfera de refugio sin renunciar a la amplitud del paisaje.
La casa se construye con materiales nobles —piedra, madera y estuco en tonos terrosos— que dialogan con la vegetación nativa y el entorno natural. La disposición de los espacios permite que cada estancia se extienda hacia el exterior mediante corredores, terrazas y grandes ventanales, diluyendo los límites entre interior y exterior.
El proyecto privilegia la vida al aire libre: un patio central con árboles endémicos organiza la vida familiar, mientras que las áreas sociales se abren hacia la alberca y las vistas lejanas del lago. El juego de cubiertas inclinadas y muros protectores otorga una escala humana y a la vez monumental, evocando la arquitectura vernácula de la ribera, reinterpretada bajo una visión contemporánea.
Se trata de una casa que no busca imponerse al paisaje, sino integrarse a él; un refugio cálido y sereno que encuentra su carácter en la relación constante con la naturaleza, el clima favorable de Chapala y la presencia de la montaña y el lago.
Casa San Juan is situated on a privileged plot of land on the shores of Lake Chapala, with open views of the water and the surrounding mountains. Its design reflects the duality between intimacy and openness: a series of understated, horizontal volumes arranged around interior courtyards and semi-enclosed gardens, creating a sense of refuge without sacrificing the expansive landscape.
The house is built with natural materials—stone, wood, and stucco in earthy tones—that harmonize with the native vegetation and the natural environment. The layout of the spaces allows each room to extend outwards through corridors, terraces, and large windows, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.
The project prioritizes outdoor living: a central courtyard with native trees organizes family life, while the social areas open onto the pool and offer distant views of the lake. The interplay of sloping roofs and protective walls lends the house a human yet monumental scale, evoking the vernacular architecture of the lakeside, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.
This is a house that doesn't seek to impose itself on the landscape, but rather to integrate with it; a warm and serene refuge that finds its character in its constant connection with nature, Chapala's favorable climate, and the presence of the mountains and the lake.
